Electrician Harlow

About this site

Electrician Harlow is an independent information site. We are not an electrical contractor, we do not carry out electrical work, and we hold no trade accreditation of our own. What we do is explain what electrical jobs involve, what they cost, what the law requires, and how to check that whoever you hire is registered.

Who publishes it

This site is published by SEO Dons Ltd, a UK company registered at Companies House under number 16766013. That is the whole of the identity behind it. There is no electrical company here, no team of engineers, and no branch in Harlow — and you should be suspicious of any information site that implies otherwise.

What we do not claim

Deliberately, and specifically:

Why we are emphatic about this. This domain's previous website did the opposite. It traded under the name of a real, unrelated electrical company and claimed to be "NICEIC Approved" — while that company's own site states it is registered with NAPIT. It also carried a specific price table and a "no call-out charges" promise, and its enquiry form had no working destination at all, so anyone who believed it and made contact reached nobody. All of that was removed in the rebuild. The positive version of that removal is how to check an electrician is registered — apply it to every site you read, including this one.

How the site makes money

Plainly: when you submit an enquiry, it is passed to electricians who cover the CM17–CM20 area, and that referral is how the site is funded. You should know that, because it is the obvious place a bias could sit.

What we have tried to do about that bias is write the pages as if the referral did not exist. That is why several pages here talk you out of spending money — PAT testing explains, in the regulator's own words, that annual testing is not a legal requirement and that most low-risk workplace equipment does not need it at all; do I need to rewire my house tells most readers no; fuse box or consumer unit tells you when to leave a working board alone. A site that only ever says yes is not worth reading.

Where our numbers come from

Every price on this site is a market reference gathered from published UK cost guidance and dated in the text — not a quote, and not our price, because we do not have one. Where a figure is set by law or by a government scheme we go to the primary source rather than to another website, and we say which source. Two examples from this month:

Where we could not verify something, we leave it out rather than estimate it. There are places on this site where a figure is conspicuously absent for exactly that reason.

What we cover

Harlow (CM17, CM18, CM19, CM20) and the surrounding West Essex and East Hertfordshire belt — Sawbridgeworth, Old Harlow, Church Langley, Potter Street, Roydon, and toward Epping and Bishop's Stortford. The area matters to the content: Harlow is a post-war new town, so much of the housing stock went up in a comparable window and a great deal of it has been part-rewired once already. That makes mixed cable ages within a single house the norm here, which changes what the right job usually is — see house rewiring cost.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we would rather know. Facts on this site are re-checked against their primary sources periodically, and pages carry the date the figures were verified. Government guidance pages move and are withdrawn — two of the source URLs used for this month's update had already gone — so anything undated on any website in this subject should be treated with suspicion.

Use the contact page to reach us, read the privacy notice for what happens to enquiry data, and the terms for the limits of the information here. Common questions are collected on the FAQ page, and the guides are indexed at guides and advice.

Get quotes from registered electricians

We pass the job to electricians covering CM17–CM20, and that referral is how this site is funded. You should still run the register check yourself before you book.

What we will not do: we do not sell your details on, we do not add you to a marketing list, and we do not require a phone number. If you would rather not be called, leave the phone out — email is enough.
